We Have EXPANDED!

We are fighting for mind and spirit in a peaceful way to build a supportive community environment for MEED people, their families and the community at large. Not treatment. Not Religious.  We are a social support and empowerment self-help type organization.  A bunch of "misfits" and "outside the box" thinkers have pulled together and are working to make a better life for ourselves and the community we live in.  We are working within MIM's Model of Empowerment with a focus on the arts promoting peaceful, positive and productive lifestyles conducive to sustainable lifestyles and livelihoods.

We are creating a local and national, formal Extended Family Solutions Network to connect organizations and MEED (mentally, emotionally and economically disadvantaged) people and their families to each other's resources in a user-friendly manner which will be of mutual benefit. We have begun this through opening Pearl House of Peace, an affordable housing cooperative, which also serves and benefits the community at large of Anderson, Indiana.  We have established Mercy International Ministry's Corporation to gently guide the work.  We have plans to add more houses locally and our proto-type live/work community center in Anderson as well.

Problems and issues we are addressing -

Homelessness and Permanent Affordable Housing

User-friendly, equal access to resources to live and work in the least restrictive environment, to self-determine lifestyle and livelihood in a sustainable manner is a challenge for MEED people. People who - have serious persistent mental illness and / or who have substance abuse disorders - are termed "treatment resistant" to traditional treatments - have "burnt their bridges " in various other programs - make choices because of their alternative, not mainstream beliefs - and most who are already economically marginalized (most below poverty), slip through the cracks of our social systems to become homeless - invisible people.
Merciful, alternative, multi-dimensional solutions with initial low-demand expectations, which adapt to multi-dimensional challenges through a self-help type model, are in short supply and needed.

Information about the organization -
May 2006 Chuck and Angela Suarez opened the doors of their home at 1429 Pearl St., Anderson, IN. It all began with a dream and a plan. Since then, over 100 members have resided - some for brief visits. Others have chosen to make what is now known as Pearl House of Peace their home. When people come, their past is left at the door. Many have burnt their bridges. Most have little hope; some none at all. To many have become "The Forgotten Shoe".
Many "emerging seeds and sprouts in development" as divisions of Mercy International Ministry's (MIM's) Corporation are already beginning to provide opportunities for growth and development of MEED people, their families and their community at large.
Our "emerging seeds and sprouts in development" are:
SPRM Publishing - publications division and website;

MIM's Empowerment Academy - classes to assimilate new members into our cooperative, learn about the global cooperative movement, learn multi-cultural peacemaking and conflict resolution strategies, and more is in development;
MIM's Place of Community Cooperative - Indiana: Pearl House of Peace (aka Pearl House, aka the peace house) is the proto-type affordable housing cooperative and the beginning of our cooperative endeavors.of MIM's Place of Community Cooperative - Indiana, a division of MIM's Corporation. Pearl House is the residential entry point for those who can not or choose to not meet their Immediate Physical Needs of food, clothing and shelter independently and for those who choose to build interdependent lifestyles. Presently, all of the staff are volunteers who are Shared Household Member's (SHM's) of Pearl House and visitors who we term "Intentional Neighbor Members (INM's)". Three cooperative businesses of a 24 hour cafe' with open stage, a retail shop with an emphasis on the arts and a spiritual retreat center for multi-cultural spiritual exploration in our live/work community center are in the planning stage;
Fire Rising is our corporate band for diversionary activities, outreach and promotional purposes;
Hippie Gyp Productions is our audio and video productions division which has produced one music CD "Understood" and one music video "Outside da Lines";
Heart Art Productions is what we envision to be our art business incubator; and
The Forgotten Shoe is an emerging program for developing sponsors for our SHM's who are living at or below the poverty level.

March 21, 2007 MIM's Corporation received its official Indiana State Certificate as a non-profit. The application for its' 501(c) 3 federal tax exemption status has been completed and accepted by the IRS as of November 2007. The IRS is processing it now. The office of MIM's Corporation is presently located and operates from one room at the Pearl House. We have a core group working hard to lead peaceful, positive, productive lives and socially support and empower others, to do the same. But, most who make it to our doorstep, struggle with mental illness/s, addiction/s, abuse issues, family problems and are thinking and acting in survival mode. Our economic support of 11-14 shared household members is limited; And, the numbers of Intentional Neighbor Members, whom we share our resources with, are growing. One stable income from one member with a full-time job, occasional temporary service jobs and odd jobs, one car, a few who receive food stamps, local food pantry supplies, "soup kitchen" meals and "dumpster diving" keep us sustained at the survival level.
We have many plans!
We are developing and creating jobs!!

With more resources, we will begin creating multiple micro-enterprises!!!
We are incrementally putting our plans into action.

But we are operating at survival.  We need additional resources.

We need your help to thrive.

Members past their visitor status begin the process of forming healthy interdependent, sustainable lifestyles and/or livelihoods with other members of our community who are like-minded. Visiting Members past their 14th day have the opportunity to progress to Novice Members, then Resident Members and ultimately to become Co-Op Owner Members - all based on contribution and accountability, much like Habitat for Humanity which requires "sweat equity".

Stop by and see us about anytime.
We work hard at keeping our doors open with love 24 hours 7 days a week.

 Who will rise and help us fight for this cause?

 Who will be the Armor Bearers of the Weak?
