MIM's Model of Empowerment

Click picture to ZOOMMIM's Model - The Wheel in Action
MIM's Model uses
an eight spoke outreach
plan of action.
It is not
treatment oriented,
but respite and diversionary
in nature.
It accepts and incorporates
Abraham H. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Model.

This model includes:
 two inner circles,
eight spokes and
eight outer circles.

The entire model
facilitates MEED people
and
their families
 to be empowered
to live peaceful, positive and productive lives.
And, their communities,
because of the Cause and Effect Principle,
benefits exponentially by the ripple effects
of this model when applied in it's entirety.

Ingredients of the Spokes and Circles

Inner Circle - MEED/Consumer and/or nucleus family is the center of MIM's Model. The MEED/Consumer and/or family is why we exist. Every decision we make is based on empowering people and and/or their families to advocate for themselves and facilitate a nurturing environment conducive to empowerment to live peaceful, positive and productive lives.

Inner Circle 2 - The NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) circle is included as a well-rounded resource. The educational programs, self-help groups and networking available to MEED and their families is a tool to aide recovery and empowerment.

Spiritual Spoke addresses the average persons desire for spiritual nourishment in a non-dogmatic fashion. Each center will include a Spiritual Retreat Center on site.  It will include a Chapel for spiritual studies, discussions and meditation.

Family Spoke addresses the need people have to belong. It will actively reach out through its "Adoption" program ,  ABOW Force and Extended Family Solution Network.

Mental Health professional Services Spoke addresses mental health challenges. It will not be treatment oriented, but diversionary and educational in nature.  It will include professional mental health service referrals, the exploration and application of the of the MIM's Model of Empowerment with an emphasis on art and education.

Physical Needs Spoke addresses the most basic human needs. Food, shelter and clothing needs will be addressed as the foundation of empowering families. When hunger, homelessness and inadequate clothing are present, a person is stuck in the bottom of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.  So, though our ABOW Force, Co-housing,  Intentional Communities and participant-maintained gardens, we will empower families to begin to gain more self-esteem which will lead to the empowerment of living peaceful, positive and productive lives..

Artistic Spoke addresses the innate desire for many people to be creative. This spoke will be diversionary in nature, provide respite and needed art resources to facilitate the desire to be creative.

Educational Need Spoke addresses ignorance. Using the phrase "Knowledge is Power" to instill the desire to continuously add to ones knowledge base, we will educate families and communities through our Buddy System, Extended Family Solutions Network. seminars and various other resources.  This will empower families to help themselves and continue with helping their communities.

Employment Options Spoke addresses the hope for recovery. Through job-sharing, cottage industry small business development, volunteer experience and, apprentice / intern program hope for recovery becomes something in reach. This hope becomes an empowering force.  This spoke also addresses the challenge the nucleus family members faces when mental illness strikes their family member in such a way to disrupt their own employment.

Personal Adaptive Need (PAN) Spoke addresses anything not included, but obviously needs addressing. Our center will facilitate addressing the need on an individual basis.  This is what we refer to as our safety net.
