Community Bio MIM's Place of Community is a virtual and real-life bunch of folks who have a first hand understanding of the unique challenges associated with what our American culture refers to as mental illness. We are building a supportive network for ourselves and others who are mentally, emotionally and economically disadvantaged (MEED). Community Purpose We believe more support services are needed for MEED people and their families to live peaceful, positive and productive lives. And, we believe that society at large still to often stigmatize and ostracize those labeled with mental illness that often times look, act and think in unique ways. Therefore, we are building a network that will support, accept and nurture MEED people and their families in such a way to empower them to live lives of their own free choosing in a peaceful, positive and productive manner conducive to self-sustaining livelihoods. We are creating intentional neighbor networks, shared households and community centers as a part of the Extended Family Solutions Network ? Family Spoke of the MIM?s Model of Empowerment. These networks, because of the cause and effect principle, will empower MEED people, their families and their communities at large to live peaceful, positive and productive lives and contribute to the eventual understanding, acceptance, social integration and inclusiveness of MEED people and their families. Community Structure Our shared vision is to support one another in our individual free choice of lifestyle. Our commitment is to support peaceful, positive and productive living. We do this in three ways through our intentional neighbor networks, shared households and communal community center residences.
